To complete DP2A’s 8th season, we will return to the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. This season finale will feature the incredibly powerful music of Giuseppe Verdi. Verdi is most known for his stunning repertoire of powerful operas. However, his Requiem Mass is equally powerful and riveting with a very large orchestra, four vocal soloists, and a double chorus. The version the DSO will present on May 6th provides a unique twist on a classical favorite.

Conceived and created by the evening’s conductor, Murry Sidlin, “The Defiant Requiem” tells the story of courageous Jewish prisoners in the Theresienstadt Concentration Camp during World War II who performed the famous Verdi Requiem Mass. This will be a powerful, inspirational multimedia performance combining the magnificent music of Verdi with testimony from survivors of the original chorus and footage from propaganda film.

You’ll be able to reflect on what you just experienced at the Signature DP2A After-Party, which will be held blocks away at one of Detroit’s new restaurants! Details coming soon.
